Why are you interested in serving on the Prairie Food Board of Directors?

I’ve been involved with Prairie Food Co-op since the early organizational days of 2012. I served on the founding Steering Committee and currently sit on the interim Board of Directors as acting Co-Treasurer. My dedication to this initiative goes back a year and a half and I continue to be energized by the work we are accomplishing and look forward to participating in our continued progress and success.

Aside from my past and current investment, I am passionate about bringing a community space and wholesome grocery store to Lombard. I hold fast to the cooperative business model’s tenants of shared ownership, sustainability and supporting our local economy and truly know that Prairie Food Co-op will be an asset to our community by contributing to our individual and corporate well-being.

As an elected Board member, I will be committed to seeing us through to opening day!

What experience, education, and skills do you have that you feel will contribute to your effectiveness as a Prairie Food Director?

My most important asset, being involved with Prairie Food Co-op for the past year and a half, is having a strong grasp on what we’ve already accomplished and the logistics regarding what still needs to be done to open the doors. In the early days, I volunteered at various events, organized fundraising workshops, attended community meetings to get the word out, and spent time researching the process via webinars and websites. This past fall I attended an all-day workshop with other start-ups in the Chicagoland area hosted by Food Co-op Initiative, a national organization which guides start-ups in the most efficient direction. I’ve also had the honor of speaking with small groups about who we are and how they can become involved, and most recently, I co-organzied and spoke at our first Community Meeting & Social Hour. All of this combined overshadows any other personal or professional experience I may have in this arena. I am confident that my history with Prairie Food Co-op paired with my passion for our mission will keep me serving diligently and energetically in the coming years.
