Why are you interested in serving on the Prairie Food Board of Directors?
The concept of a community owned grocery store filled with healthy foods I can trust is very appealing to me. Previous family health concerns have fueled my interest in what is truly in our foods. The answers I am finding are shocking and very disconcerting to me. I believe our food supply system is fundamentally broken with large corporations and government agencies serving their own interests and not the consumer. Being part of a co-op where we have more direct access to the foods we purchase is a driving force behind serving on the board.
I also want to support local farmers and other vendors that share my values regarding sustainability and organic food production. This will boost our local economy which I highly support.
What experience, education, and skills do you have that you feel will contribute to your effectiveness as a Prairie Food Director?
I am excited to contribute to the board in a number ways. I have 30+ years of business, management and sales experience. As we build our multi-million dollar business I can offer certain insights into proper business structure, operating procedures and goals, vision and objectives. Building a business from the ground up takes a tremendous effort but will be so rewarding once we open those doors for the first time.
Serving as a former school board member taught me the inner workings of local government and civic organizations. I am very interested in spearheading our community outreach. My initial efforts connecting with the Village President’s staff, civic and health organizations and the Chamber of Commerce has resulted in immediate benefits to the co-op. I would like to continue these initiatives as a permanent board member.
Finally, I really enjoy working with people. I would like to utilize my leadership skills managing teams to perform at peak levels. I’m eager to serve on the board to see the Prairie Food Co-op succeed and contribute however I can.
