Lombard Food Co-op News of the Week – July 6, 2012

Farm and Co-op Visit

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to visit an area farm, and a food cooperative in Dekalb.  Check out our pictures on the Lombard Food Co-op Facebook page.  First, we visited Walnut Acres Family Farm in Walnut, IL (2 hours straight west), which offers a monthly meat CSA share featuring pastured, range feed beef, chicken, and pork.  We then stopped by the Duck Soup cooperative in Dekalb and stocked up on their many bulk items.  Look for opportunities to visit more farms and Illinois food cooperatives, as a group, soon!

Very first Co-op meeting

We had our first ever co-op meeting yesterday, which focused on our marketing strategy.  It was a huge success!  We had a wonderful group of enthusiastic people, who brought forward some great ideas.  If you missed out, don’t worry – there will be plenty of future meetings!  This effort will take a lot of us working together over the next year or two.

In The News (again!)

If you live in Lombard, it will be hard to miss our co-op story in today’s Lombard Spectator (we are on the front page!).  Elmhurst and Villa Park residents will also find our story in their weekly paper.  As soon as the story is available on-line, we’ll post a link on our website.

Want to get involved?

There are still plenty of opportunities to help at area Farmers Markets.  We recently got approval to host a booth at the Elmhurst Farmers Market on Wednesdays, beginning in August.  If you are able to help with either the Elmhurst or Lombard Farmers Market, please sign-up at  Helping involves handing out fliers (which we will provide) and answering questions about our cooperative, or sending people to our website for more information.  We are happy to meet with volunteers prior to the Farmers Market, to review common questions and answers.
