Lombard Food Co-op News of the Week – June 29, 2012

Illinois Food Cooperative Meeting

This has been a busy week for us.  On Wednesday, Jerry and I traveled to Bloomington-Normal to attend the first ever Illinois Food Co-op gathering.  There were 5 co-ops in the start-up phase in attendance – Bloomington-Normal, Oak Park, Macomb, Ottowa, and us (Lombard!).  In addition, there were 3 established Food Co-ops – Common Ground from Urbana, Neighborhood Co-op from Carbondale, and The Dill Pickle from Chicago.  This was a fantastic opportunity to learn from the established co-ops and share tools/ideas with those in “start-up” mode.  We received a lot of great information!

Meeting Scheduled – can you attend?

We have reserved a space at the Helen Plum Library next Thursday, July 57-8:30 pm to discuss marketing plans for the Farmers Market.  If you have marketing experience or are interested in helping, please lend us your talents!  Please let us know if you plan to attend so that we have enough space (simply reply to this email).  If you are unable to attend the meeting, we can still use your help – just send us an email.

In The News (again!)

Look for an article about our Food Co-op initiative in next Friday’s Lombard Spectator.

The Dill Pickle grocery store in Chicago has graciously agreed to help us in our organizing efforts.  The Dill Pickle is a Food Co-op grocery store in the Logan square neighborhood of Chicago.  They have been extremely successful and after only 3 years, have grown so much that they are expanding into a larger space.

I have no marketing experience, but I’m glad to help in any way. I can attend the meeting on the 5th.
