Why are you interested in serving on the Prairie Food Board of Directors?

I have lived in Villa Park for over 40 years and I am truly dedicated to the improvement of our community and the health of the people in this and the surrounding communities. I have been involved in the Prairie Food Co-operative since the creation of the interim Board of Directors, currently acting as Board Vice-president. I have been involved in all aspects of creating by laws and operating agreement for the Co-op. So many dedicated people have accomplished so much already and I want to see this project to its completion, that is,the opening of a store that provides our community with wholesome, locally grown, sustainable, healthy foods – a store that supports our community businesses and improves the economy of our community and the surrounding communities.

I have volunteered at various events, attended community meetings to spread the information about the Co-op and spent time meeting with our large pool of volunteers.

What experience, education, and skills do you have that you feel will contribute to your effectiveness as a Prairie Food Director?

I am an attorney practicing in DuPage County for 35 years. I am a member of the DuPage County Bar Association and have served two (2) terms on the Board of Directors of that association. I have also served on various business boards and some not-for-profit boards which have given me the experience to be an effective board member of the Prairie Food Co-op. I am currently researching the establishment of a not-for-profit arm of the Prairie Food Co-op which will give us an opportunity to be eligible for many more grants and allow for donations to be tax deductible by our donors.
I have volunteered at various events, attended community meetings to spread the information about the Co-op and spent time meeting with our large pool of volunteers. I attended an all-day workshop hosted by Food Co-op Initiative, a national organization which guides start-ups in the most efficient direction. I also met with one of the Organizers of the Sugar Beet co-op in Oak Park and obtained valuable information which has been of great help to our organization.
